Halloween Eve in Louisville, Kentucky

Orange, brown and green crumples and red fire bush line the streets;

The colours of autumn with a crispy ice breath.

How often have we dreamt of this day in dreams of technicolor and dreams the color of beets.

The harvest moon in misty grey drapes the sunset's death.

Maroon curtains of thick velvet fall in drapes on the stage below a skirted valance,

A pink brick house peeks through the window next to more heavily dressed building;

A showcase set of lights highlights the pink but maintains the balance.

Heavy, dark burnished window panes, marked by years of history separate the

'in' from the 'out'.

Candlesque in ornate brass are chandeliers or ivory candles and white lights.

The aisles in this "Player's Theatre" are wide, to allow passage.

Crystal clear sound is intermeshed with silence, energy sparkling through the air

from people not long gone.

An ebony velvet white night is this, with lollipop trees lining the streets.

"Nuclear waste", the street minstrals sing, "is making your teeth rot out of your

mouth", while no one listens.

Instead, the crown assembled around "Big Bird" in costume across the road to be

photographed and perform feats.

Goblins, witches, and cinderellas, all minuature versions, marched down the street

in a group.

Coloured by the night were they, while their eyes glistened.
