In a new town, with new people, two sisters must face the awful truths of their pasts.
"Rebecca!" Ravi yelled from the bottom of our stairs, "We have to leave, NOW!"
I ran down the stairs, clutching my glasses in my left hand and my wet, dirty blond hair dripped down my back.
"Sorry, sorry," I muttered sliding my shoes on quickly, "I couldn't find my glasses."
She rolled her eyes and sighed grabbing my hair and braiding it quickly. She smiled as we walked out of the door,
"New school, New life, put your best foot forward, Becca!"
I tried to smile, but it came out a grimace. She turned to me frowning when we reached her truck,
"For Joyce?"
I sighed and smiled to myself,
We climbed in her truck and started for school, in our new town called Crystal Lake in Wisconsin. We had just moved from Ohio, not by choice of course. Our adopted mother, Joyce Breeman, had transferred companies much to her delight. Our's...not so much.
Ravi and I had been orphans ever since our father, George Stone, died in a car accident. I didn't know very much about him, Ravi kept silent about him, so I rarely pestered her about it.
We arrived at school in plenty of time, parking in one of the last spots. We made our way into the office. The secretary handed us our schedules and wished us well.
We drifted our way to the commons area, sicking close to my sister.
"Raven?" called a voice from my right, I turned to look at who spoke.
"Who?" I asked timidly avoiding his eyes.
He gently lifted my face up to his with two slender fingers. I bit my lip, he was so cute. "Your sweatshirt said 'Ravi'. I assume that's your name?" He smiled genuinely. I couldn't help but smile too.
"This is my sister's, I must have grabbed her's and not mine." I bit the inside of my cheek, raw from earlier than day.
"But, I want to know <i>your<i> name."
"M-my name?" I pointed to myself dumbly. He smiled and let out a low chuckle, I looked down at my feet in embarrassment. "It's Rebecca Sto-umm Breeman."
He cocked an eyebrow,
"Sto-ummmbreeman?"
I looked up at him quickly,
"No, it's Breeman. Rebecca Breeman."
He smiled again,
"Can I call you Becca? Or do you prefer Rebecca?"
I shrugged casually,
"Either, umm." I picked at my nails quietly, "What's your name, again?"
He gasped in surprise,
"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. Sorry, my name's Chris Shapiro. I live just out of town."
"Cool,"
*BRIIIINNNNNG*
"You should come by sometime, Becca. What's your first class?"
I looked down at my paper,
"It's...English 12. I'm a sophomore, I'm just a lot farther in English."
He laughed,
"I'll take you there, It's my first class too."
He took my hand in his and whisked me away to our class.
