Trying to run away from thoughts and memories.
I am walking down the empty street. Alone, listening to the silence. Night air wraps its arms around me, holding me tight to its sweet smell. While I walk, the ghost of my breaths caressing my face, I watch the trees, backlit by the streetlights I left behind in exchange for the forest. My feet are snapping twigs, and crushing pinecones. I have no destination; I just want to be alone, with the night. The winds brushes through my fingers, and the first few flakes of snow kiss my cheek. I walk further into the forest, dimly brightened by the moon, filtering through purple clouds. Finding myself by a river, I sit on a large rock, and watch the water flowing, with no control, just being drawn further and further from everything else. I curl up and lay my cheek against the cool rock. Snow is falling, falling, falling. Lightly dusting everything in a thin layer of white, making everything the same, nothing looks like itself anymore. Even I blend in with the world. White. Blank. Invisible. I have no control of where I am going, my thoughts tug towards that one thought I would give everything to forget. I struggle to forget, but at the same time, I don’t want to. My selfish thoughts begin to churn, towards the inevitable, just like the river before me. I listen to the silence, filling the world. I will the sweet thoughts away. Thoughts that I know will soothe me, and then burn me. It’s not worth it. Silence is pounding in my head. Filling the forest, the world is hushed. Breaking the silence, someone is screaming, their heartbroken voice filling the noiseless world. I am the one screaming, but I cannot stop, so I continue to let sob after sob rip from my throat until it is over. Until I am left empty from tears unsung, and memories that I cannot run away from. The river continues to flow past, and one silent tear, slips from my eye.
