A story about a girl with wings, and the boy who finds her.
Kit's Story

Chapter 1

Toni was a mild servant boy, so when he burst through the kitchen doors with a terrified expression on his face and an unconscious girl in his arms, Ann dropped the eggs she was about to boil. "She's hurt!" Toni yelped as he showed her to Ann. "Quick, let's take her to my quarters, and hush! We don't want anyone to see her, or well be punished." When they lay her down on the bed covered with towels to keep the cot from getting stained, she moaned softly. Both of them wondered why her dress had two slits in the back. "She's coming to," Ann heard Toni whisper. He was sixteen, and the girl looked about his age.

"She's a pretty thing." Ann whispered to herself, while getting an ointment for her cuts ready. Luckily Toni didn't hear her, because the girl woke with a start just then. "Kree! Kree!" She called out almost bird like, and made a bolt for the window. Toni tried to grab her, but Ann locked the window just in time. Toni closed the door and the girl swiftly ducked under the bed. She was bleeding worse now and they heard her whimper. "It's alright, we wont hurt you, we want to help, OK dear?" Ann calmly told her. She shakily came out of the crevice and they saw her gray dress was spotted in blood. "Turn around Toni." he did as instructed and when he turned around the girl was in a blue dress. Ann was applying bandages for her wounds. "OK, dear, can you tell us your name?" Ann questioned. "Kit... My name's Kit, I think... I don't remember much of anything..." Kit coughed and slumped. "Where am I? All I remember is flying overhead and-" Kit was cut off by Toni, "You mean in a airship? But we don't have an airfield any where near here..." Kit replied "No. I've never been in a 'airship', I flew with my wings." Ann gasped. Tony thought she was retarded. "I'M NOT RETARDED!" Kit burst out in fury, "I'M NOT DILLUSIONAL EITHER!" Kit yelled at Ann "Oh yes," She snapped, "I can also read minds."

"What?" Ann asked Kit astounded. "You heard me, now is there a way to get the blood out from my dress?" Kit hopped onto the bed to where her silver-gray dress lay. Anna cleaned them out with cold, soapy water from her sink. Toni turned and she got dressed again. "You can read minds.?" Toni questioned. I'm telepathic too. Her voice was heard, but her lips didn't move. "No, It's not ventriloquism, and you still haven't told me your names, so think them 'aloud' and I'll prove it to you." She looked at them for a moment then said "Toni, Ann, it was a pleasure meeting you but I have to go now." She opened the window and jumped out. "It's two stories tall!" Toni yelled, and Ann tried to grab Kit, but she plummeted, laughing, and unfurled two silver, seven foot wings and glided down. She landed awkwardly, then fell, clutching her left wing. It had a few missing feathers, and was bleeding. OK... I'm coming back up. Kit flapped and fluttered to the window and dropped to the floor. Ann went to her side and carried her to the bed. Now do you believe me? Kit silently asked then moaned as Ann slathered ointment over the wound. Kit laughed, "My humerus is not feeling humorous." Reading Toni's mind, she playfully scolded, It's a bone stupid. She used her telepathy to tell him so he wouldn't be embarrassed in front of Ann.

"I guess we're lucky no one saw you." Toni sighed. "Why?" Kit asked. "I didn't even go into full form." At their puzzled expressions she shrugged and looked around. "Not enough room to show you." Ann cut in, "We aren't allowed to bring strangers into the estate." Ann explained where they were and how they had to keep her hidden. "There's a forest back there right? I'll stay there for now." Kit suggested, but Ann insisted Kit stay for at least the rest of the night. "OK, I'm too tired to fly anyway." Kit yawned and her wings seemed to meld with her body. The slits in her dress showed no trace of wings whatsoever. "Here I'll sleep like this," Kit formed into a small green songbird then fluttered to Toni's shoulder and hopped onto one of the coat hangers in Ann's closet and chirped. She ruffled her feathers and closed her eyes. Goodnight. "Sleep well you two." Toni said and smiled.

Toni walked out and closed the door. He tried to take in the past hour, but it made his head hurt. Kit was a bird! Where did she come from? What did she mean 'full form'? SHE'S A BIRD! It's a lot to take in. I'll explain in the morning. OK, Toni thought. Now go to sleep Toni. He went to his room and slept, dreaming of the past events, and felt lucky he had found Kit.

Chapter 2

Toni got up earlier than usual, the wake up call for morning chores was around three in the morning. When he got to the Ann's room, the door was locked. Toni heard Kit reassuring Ann, "It Toni, I can tell." and Ann opened the door. "Sorry, one of the laundry maids this morning gave me trouble about cutting slits in the blue dress, and all the dried blood on Kit's gray one. I need to be more careful." Ann sounded tired and kit was sitting on the bed examining the missing feathers on her wings. "It's a silver dress, not gray. Fortunately Harpy Eagle feathers grow quickly, so there already are some buds in the missing places. You want me to explain now right?" Kit put her larger wings away and transformed into a small cream colored falcon. Race you to the field outside! And with that she was soaring through the sky. Toni and Ann rushed to the window and saw her land in the tall grass with a brief struggle, then Kit popped up with a large vole in her beak and seemed to smile, even while being a bird.

When Ann and Toni got to the field, the sun was still not up, and Kit was finishing her vole on a fence post. You two think it's disgusting, but think of this, you're a starving wanderer who has little memory but can change into several birds, including a larger than life Harpy Eagle. You see a vole, just sitting there waiting to be caught. What do you do? After a moment Toni said, "OK, but we could have brought you food, Ann's an excellent cook." I prefer it raw and fresh, no offense... "None taken." Ann replied and smiled. "What did you mean 'full form', yesterday?" Toni excitedly asked when Kit went back to human. "I'll show you, since no one is around but that deer, yet..." Kit pointed to a buck grazing in the distance and grinned. Without further warning, Kit's body grew large feathers, her arms melded into roughly ten foot long wings, her legs grew into a huge raptor torso, complete with scaly feet and five inch curved talons, and the rest of her went to a silver eagle form in less than four seconds. She called out a deafening shriek, a crest of silver feathers rose from the top of her head and she took to the air. The deer was startled along with Toni and Ann, but not as fast as Kit. When she swooped back in the buck landed with a thump and Kit used her telepathy to tell them that Ann could 'cook' this one. Kit suddenly looked startled. Some one heard us! Quick, onto my back! MOVE! Toni did without hesitation. Ann was too shocked to move, because five men on horses were rushing toward them. They stopped when Thomas ran in front of them. "YOU ARE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! VACATE THE PREMISES IMMEDEATLY!" The leader of the horsemen handed him a wanted poster, and Thomas briefly called out, "Carry on. Don't worry about those two," he pointed to Toni and Ann, "They will be disposed of anyway."

A torrent of arrows rained toward the trio, and Ann quickly climbed on behind Toni, but fell as an arrow hit her side. "Arghhh! Go! I'll be fine!" Ann moaned, but Toni stayed however, and Kit went to human form. Toni cried and Kit sadly prayed as Ann slowly left the world. "Hush now, I've lived a long life, had you for a wonderful son, and met the most extraordinary young lady I could ever wish to meet. Go now, I love you Toni, and you too Kit..." She drifted away. "I'll go, if that is your final wish," Toni sighed, "goodbye Ann." As the archers reloaded their crossbows, Kit made a split decision. "Come and get me... Just don't hurt Toni!" She sat down. The leader saw Kit had given up. "Hold your fire! She's wanted alive..."As soon as they got off their horses and were coming toward her, Kit jumped up and grabbed Toni by the arm, and hurried across the field into the forest surrounding the grassy terrain. "They can't follow us in the forest, come on," Kit yelped, "We'll be safe there!"

When they were in the woodlands, far from the archers, Kit opened her wings and helped Toni into a tree. We should call that 'Angel Form'," Toni said, "just 'cause you look like an angel." Kit blushed. They sat for a while up in the tree, and Kit sighed and said, "You think it's all my fault." Toni remembered she was psychic. "No, No! I'm just confused," he tried to calm her down, "Its OK what happened! If you didn't have your wings we would have-" Kit cut him off, "Died? I'm a FREAK! I hate these wings! They made me lose my memory, they killed Ann, and they jeopardized your life!" She broke down sobbing and Toni hugged her. "It's OK, the wings don't make you a freak, just special." Kit sniffled and replied, "They're ugly." He stroked her silver hair it was smooth and almost sparkled, it felt downy like baby feathers, even though it was straight. "No, they match your hair, and your dress." She looked surprised. "This is blue..." she gasped as Toni pulled out out of his jacket pocket, a new silver gown, one he had paid most of his savings to the house's tailor for. It even had sewn in slits for her wings. "Wow, thanks!" She hugged him and he was happy that he had, for the first time in his life, a friend his age.
