The ending to something. That something will never be written.
The burnt skyline was beautiful.
All of the twisted, broken metal reaching for the heavens, as it cast long shadows onto the rotting world, as the sun set for the last time.
She stood there, not speaking, her long red hair fluttering in the wind behind her like a flag, her jade eyes shimmering in the reflection of the sun, pondering, sad eyes.
"So here we are," she said in her soft voice. It trailed away.
"Yep," I responded. I averted my gaze to the ground. There were still some embers smoldering amongst the ashes of the life that was once, the plants, the animals, the people. It all was once there, and then, it wasn't.
She turned to look at me.
"I love you," she said as she took a step towards me. I didn't say anything back. Nothing would fit. Nothing could fit. I just sat there, watching her. We both knew that we loved each other. We didn't need words to convey it. And now, that it was all gone, there wasn't a need for words. At all.
The sky got darker, and the earth got colder. The pinks and oranges turned to black, the sun slowly falling beneath the horizon, never to rise again. The sky above was completely black. There were no stars. And there would never be stars again. The moon had crumbled. It was all dark.
She laid down beside me, staring upwards into the eternal obsidian night. I took off my jacket, and gave it to her. She put it on. I shivered. Ash fell upon us soflty, like death snow. We both lay there, holding each other, knowing that the end had come, the world was over, and there was no hope. We didn't say it out loud, but in our minds we knew that we were the last people on Earth. There was nothing to look forward to at all. All we could do was lie there, looking up, and wait for our lives to fade painlessly away into nothing. We could only wait for the dark end to come and take us away.

So here we are.
