She's been trying to escape it as long as she can remember.
Nuisance On My Back

His beady eyes stared back at me, challenged me to stop him. Maybe it was a her, I couldn’t tell the difference. It didn’t matter anyways, not in this situation. I always just assumed it to be a he (just for the record).
I wiped my sweaty palms against my jeans and whispered encouraging words to myself. Building enough courage, I narrowed my eyes. He wasn’t going to win. I was going to fight. This was WAR!
Eeek, a strangled squeak escaped from my lips as he took a step towards me. Maybe just talking to myself wasn’t enough to obtain courage, I thought as I took a step back.
I tried talking to him, tried to rationalize with him but that wasn’t going to do much good considering he couldn’t respond or understand for that matter. I pondered this thought before chastising myself to pay attention to the task at hand!
Finally, I realized I had only one choice left. Turning around I started running as fast as I could away from him. He of course followed. Looking behind me, I saw him at my heel and sped up trying to put some distance between us. Running through the woods, my hair flew out around me as I pushed away leaves, branches and hopped over a log. My breath came in short gasps as I kept running, trying to escape.
He didn’t necessarily look evil, but I knew what he was capable of. I’d been through this before.
I didn’t know how long I’d run but my legs felt like lead. I didn’t know how much longer I could go on. The pressure in my chest was increasing. My frantic nerves were getting the best of me and before I knew it, my legs gave out and I fell to the ground.
This had happened before. No matter how many times I tried I couldn’t get rid of him. He was everywhere, always on my back and this time was no different.
Turning my head slightly I saw a pink ball of fur coming at me. He threw up his hands with an animalistic cry and attached himself onto my back.
This time I didn’t try to fight back, to push him off. It seemed all routine and pointless anyways. With a sight of defeat, I merely got up and started the long walk him with a pink monkey on my back…..once again.
