disillusionment can be enlightening.
“eyes open”

I was born
with eyes wide open,
every moment
they are closing.

Don’t you know?
The first breath poisons.
Mother, father
you’ve raised a bitter
twisted soul,
who sees things as they are.

So we must live,
Subside,
on hand-me-down morality.
Misplaced charity,
a half-hearted life
like one slit wrist.

My doctor tells me
I’m just sad.
But what does he know?
All he has learned
is to repeat
what he has been told.
To stay you at this border,
Still on hold
This is my anthem.
You are, what they see.
You are not yourself.
You are sick, confused.
You are making life difficult
for yourself.
And everyone else.
As I you have the power.

So we believe
without thought,
this painting of the world.
That you are not safe, that
thousands die from panic.
Run to shelter, find your loved ones,
hide the pictures, search the houses.
All gone off to war.
Never came home
to hollow victories,
cheered in the streets.
Societies rape fantasy.
The migration of idiocy.
Voter apathy.  Agoraphobia.
Fear culture, teaching you
your place.

My little prison.
There will always be
a place for me here.

This is a world
of empty museums and stolen treasures.
Broken bridges, guarding silent halls.
We have to realise,
the cure for cancer
won’t save the world.
They wouldn’t have lived
Forever.

Now my eyes hurt
when I close them.
My hands burn at night,
is this what you have chosen?
The chill pull
to dantes wood.
No-one can be happy,
not anymore

To be alive,
you would hope,
is to be as close to god
as anyone can be.
Every breath a prayer,
every thought an answer.
So don’t hold you breath
for salvation.
We are answerable
only to ourselves.
Boys and girls,
ladies and gentlemen,
god has retired.
I read it on
a young girls t-shirt.
We are striving to create
beautiful patterns in the dirt.
This is hope?
Now, these are our dreams.
By our sins remembered
if by our saints forgotten.
But life is for young eyes.
The old don’t smile
without a memory.

It is, perhaps
no great loss.
