A boy is teased through grade school until he meets a girl in high school.
This boy was a loner since 6th grade. Everyone hated him because he hated them. He told everyone to keep away from him one day after some kids played a prank on him. All the kids made fun of him and messed with him all through middle school. 9th grade came and he felt like repeating his middle school years. Then a girl came up to him and introduced herself.

Her name was Jennifer. The boy then knew he didn’t want to be alone anymore. He hung out with Jennifer (he referred to her as Jenny) as much as he could. He would be seen with her before, after, and sometimes during school in class. Some hated that the boy had a friend and tried to destroy his life. These were the same people who had teased him in middle school. They would always try to take Jenny from him, but she would ignore them. This made the boy have hope. Only after knowing her for a few weeks, he had a crush on Jenny. He didn’t tell her because he was afraid it would ruin their friendship.

One day in a class he and Jenny had together, he started doodling like he always did. It had said, “I like Jenny” continuously on his paper. A girl who had teased the boy since 7th grade saw this paper. She ripped it from his binder and said, “Look! He has a crush on Jenny!” All the other kids looked at the paper and laughed at him. He attempted to get the paper back several times, but failed. He looked at Jenny for a quick second. He saw how embarrassed she looked. Angered by this, he stormed out of the class as quick as he could go. Jenny chased after him out of the class. When she was outside of the classroom, he had already disappeared.

Jenny wanted to apologize for the look she gave him that day. No one saw him for about a month. He returned to school one day in December. A couple days before Winter Break had started. She tried to speak to him for those last couple days. All of her attempts ended in failure. The day before Winter Break, he handed Jenny a note. He told her not to open it until she was at home in her room. She agreed and they didn’t speak for the rest of the day. School felt like forever in the eyes of Jenny. The day ended slowly and she wanted to return home as fast as possible. Jenny got home, threw her stuff onto her bed, sat at her desk, and opened the note. She read it to herself so no one knew what she was reading. The note said:

“To Jennifer: From the day we met, I knew there was something special about you. The way you act, your smile, your eyes, and so much more. After knowing you for a while, I started to like you. Maybe even more, who knows? All I know is that no one will ever know more about it. That day in class scarred me more than all my years in middle school. The look I received from you made me want to be dead than see that face again. That’s all I could think about for a month. That and my plans for suicide.”

Jenny gasped at this last sentence. She didn’t know what to think at that point and continued reading.

“That thought has run through my mind many times before. When I met you that thought left my mind and I hoped for good. I guess it didn’t. I want to ask a favor of you. Actually, two favors. One---watch the news and read the newspaper during Winter Break.”

This troubled Jenny’s thoughts over and over again and again. What was he going to do? She read on.

“And two---keep this note with you at all times. One day you’ll read this note aloud. You’ll know when that day is. Until that day, I shall never see you again. Goodbye my one true love.”

She read the note over and over again and again. She said to herself the last sentence continuously until she fell asleep. When she awoke the next day, she awoke crying in her bed. The only thought on her mind was the note she was given. She felt something she never felt before in her life. What was she feeling? Love? Hate? She didn’t know what to do. She stayed home during Winter Break instead of going out and being with her friends. Jenny watched the news everyday as the note had asked. One day, a breaking story had interrupted the show she was watching. “This just in, a boy attempted suicide early this morning.” Jenny gasped at what the news reporter has said. “Officials haven’t told us what his name is and if he actually killed himself or not.” Jenny rushed to the phone and called the boy. There was nothing but the answering machine. She tried again and again. Still, no one picked up the phone. She started to cry. Her only thought at that point was---Do I love him? She continued to cry for a while. To her, it seemed that seconds passed as minutes. Minutes passed as weeks. Weeks turned into months. Months into years.

The reporter on TV continued, “Wait a moment. We now have his name. The boy’s name is R.J. He’s 15 years old, 5 feet 8 inches with jet black, medium length hair. He was bluish-gray eyes, tan skin, and a well built body. It seems this boy was very well liked by his community. He helped out around his neighborhood numerous times.” In Jenny’s mind was nothing. She was scared, angered, and very unhappy all at once. The TV continued blaring in the back round. “Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.” When the news station went to commercial, the phone in Jenny’s hand had started to ring. She jumped as thought she heard a bullet. She saw the name on the caller id: R.J. She answered the phone as quick as she could. She started off by saying hello. There was silence for a bit.

R.J. broke the silence by saying, “I need to tell you something but you must remain quiet. The news station is reporting from my friend’s house. I was just there when I attempted to kill myself. I tried by hanging myself from his ceiling. I didn’t expect his mom to be home. After she cut the rope, she called the police. I made a run for my house. I got here and saw you had just called not to long ago. I’m telling you now I’m going to attempt it again. Please don’t call back.” R.J. hung the phone up and left Jenny hanging. She stayed with the phone to her ear for about 5 minutes.

After realizing what had just happened, she called the police. She told the operator about the conversation she just had. She also told them R.J.’s address. The news reporter on TV says, “What? We are now just learning that the suicidal boy, R.J., is alive and at his house. We’re also told that he’s going to attempt to take his life once again. We’ll be heading over to the scene as fast as we possibly can.

Jenny had started on her way to R.J.’s house. She ran and ran, never stopping. R.J.’s house was just in her eye sight. Jenny starts running even faster. She realizes she’s running faster than she has ever in her life. She reaches the gate and throws it open. She starts up the walkway towards the front door. She gets to the door and throws it open. When the door is thrown open, Jenny only hears two things: a gunshot and a thump.
