the story of an elderly man viting his kin in the country |
A DAY IN THE COUNTRY I was sittin around the house the other day Watchin some ole tv re-run When I got to thinking what a bore I had become Doin nothing, an breathin in that urban smog Jus sittin around the house, lookin like a bump on a log So, I thought it might be nice if I got away I could take a drive out in the country for a day Had pretty much in mind where I would go Ill drive out to the farm and see Aunt Millie an Uncle Joe So I loaded up my oxygen bottles, hoses an such I never knew the darn things weighed so much Packed some nappies wippies b/p meds and inhalers to go Threw in a couple pair of underpants. Cause at my age Well….. you just never know Got everthing packed and in the truck Ran back and got an extra set of keys Probably will need them knowin my luck Started backing outta the driveway an darn near ran over the cat Got half way down the alley…. An darn if I didn’t have a flat Finally made it out to the farm, walked up on the porch and knocked OnThe door, aunt Millie answered and her St. Bernard knocked me To the floor, she was in the kitchen canning peppers and making hot sauce. Got me a spoon and took a tastes of the sauce she made Good Lord…… I thought I had swallowed an exploding hand Grenade Was walking out to the barn to see uncle Joe. When I slipped and fell in some horse dung that was laying there on the path, Got some in my eye and a chunk in my ear. Raised myself up and was brushing off When the darn horse bit me in the rear Finally made it out to the barn and found uncle Joe He was feeding a cow called Llilybelle, and a bull named Moe Said it was good to see him and asked how it was going When the darn dog started barking and Lilybelle kicked me in The groin Well, the day finally came to an end So I told them good-bye and that I’d try to see them again I’m back home now sittin on a pillow in my easy chair A patch on my eye and an ice bag…. Well you know where. Thinking about the lovely day I’ve had Saying to myself…. These darn tv re-runs aint all that bad Poem by: jerry brown 09/02/2005 |
