                                                          The Destiny

"I feel it, the darkness."

The man standing by the window nodded. An old enemy rising, DeWolfe had felt it for sometime.  He had been waiting trying to feel out her intentions.  She was striving for ultimate power once again.  He had put it off for to long, action was needed before she destroyed their very existence.

"DeWolfe?"

The man at the window turned.

"Aye.  We'll go to New Orleans."

Lachlan stared at his old friend.  He looked restless tonight.  The man at the window was remembering the past.  Lachlan knew what haunted his old friend for the same memories haunted him, but Brendan DeWolfe was the more powerful one, the one everyone looked to, his responsibilities were far greater.

"She'll go for the descendant."

Dark blue eyes turned toward Lachlan. "Not right away, she needs time to prepare."

Lachlan nodded.  Last time Camilla Dubois had been defeated, but not before she had killed many innocents.  DeWolfe had been seconds to late to save the woman Camilla was sacrificing in a ritual to give her unknown powers.  Lachlan knew DeWolfe still carried that guilt with him.  DeWolfe couldn’t even acknowledge he had stopped Camilla from gaining power just that the sacrificial woman had died.

Lachlan knew it tortured DeWolfe because the woman had resembled his sister, who he had also failed to save.  He studied his friend again.  DeWolfe was tall six foot four, although nowadays that wasn't as striking as it used to be.  The taller man had dark black hair and midnight blue eyes, which would on occasion darken to black. Lachlan and DeWolfe had been together since they were lads born in the highlands.  If they had only known where their destinies were to lead them.

"We'll leave on the morrow."  DeWolfe said quietly.

Lachlan nodded.  America, they hadn't been there in a while.  It was a fascinating country to two Scotsman who were born in 1065.  He was drawn to anything that would still fascinate him.  To a 941 year old vampire, fascination was a disappearing emotion.  DeWolfe needed this, he would defeat Camilla for good this time and hopefully he could finally bleed out all the hatred and revenge that filled him.  Lachlan sighed even vampires needed hope to cling to.

"Gwenie!"

Two green eyes looked up at the door. "Yeah?"

Sara came marching into the backroom.

"Did you tell a customer that one of the archaic swords was not for sale?"

"He was going to use it!  Use it, Sara.  Probably in his backyard with a bunch of his buddies.  He would have destroyed it!"

"Ok Gwen maybe I wasn't clear but, I am trying to run a business here.  We just sell the products to the customers.  We don't do background checks to see if they are going to good homes."  She said exasperated.

The brunette sighed. The sword the blubbery man had wanted was in fabulous shape, it didn't deserve to be ruined.

"I am sorry Sara but I couldn't stand for that man to ruin such a beautiful sword."

"Gwen you act like these artifacts are your children!"

Gwen looked around the room; there was just something about artifacts, especially medieval ones. She constantly did research trying to find the storied past of the items that came into the store.  Gwen was never able to afford to go to college, so working in Sara’s antique store was the closest she probably would ever get to ancient artifacts.  Gwen was lucky Sara had hired her; and that they had become such good friends.  Sara was Gwen’s own age and coming from the other end of the economic spectrum had inherited the antique store from her parents.

"You need a man in your life." Sara bluntly stated breaking into Gwen’s thoughts.

And there it was.  Gwen stood up and started to walk back to the front.  "Don't even start this with me again.  Just because I don't go out on dates every night like you do, doesn't mean I don't have a life."

Sara frowned.  "God when is the last time you got laid?"

"Sara back off."  Gwen said glaring at her.

As per the usual Sara pretended not to have heard her.

"You're coming out with me tonight."

Gwen didn't even argue with her.  She would win.

Brendan DeWolfe entered the night club.  His eyes quickly scanned the room.  He found Lachlan Cameron sitting in a darkened corner and moved to sit across from him.

"She's in the city, hidden well though.  I ran into a few of her minions.  They weren't trained very well."

The waitress came up to them, she couldn't take her eyes of Brendan and kept moving closer to him.

"Is there anything I can get you?"  She asked breathlessly.

Brendan could feel the blood pounding in her veins.

"Scotch on the rocks."

She walked away but kept looking back at him.

Brendan pointed to Lachlan's drink, a Bloody Mary.  "Still have the sense of humor after all these years."

Lachlan laughed.

"Is she still here?"  DeWolfe asked.

Lachlan nodded.  "Table near the back, group of people.  The brunette with green eyes, purple top."

His dark head turned to look and spot the table.  At the same time the brunette turned her head towards him and her friend who must have said something funny because she started to laugh.
Her hair was a rich brown, long with a slight curl to it.  Her breasts were full and strained against her v-top shirt.  But it was her eyes, which drew him.  They were a deep green, he thought even without his heightened senses he would be able to see them from far away.  For once he was the one being drawn, he felt like he couldn't take his eyes off of her.

"Bren?"

He broke out of the spell he was in and looked back at Lachlan turning his back on her.

Lachlan was staring at him.  "You ok?"

"Aye."  There had been many women in his life, but he had never been drawn to anyone like that before.

"She's beautiful, she has long legs, tall probably around five ten, full lips."

Brendan knew Lachlan would notice that about her, Lachlan often complained that Brendan did not tup enough.  While Lachlan considered himself to have become a connoisseur of women over the years.

"What's her name?"  Brendan asked.

"Gwyneth Wyatt."

"Are you sure she's the one?"

Lachlan nodded.  "The one and only female descendant."

"Camilla must know where she is.  I wouldn't be surprised if she hasn't already made contact with her."

Brendan looked towards the door.

Lachlan followed his friends gaze.  "Aye, I saw them too.  There are four more in the back.  I've blocked them from feeling our presence, but when Camilla sends one with real power they will be able to feel us."

"If Camilla already knows who she is, we are going to have to act quickly."

"Aye, I love this part, where we introduce ourselves as vampires and try to reason with them." Lachlan said laughing without humor.

His friend just looked back at the woman with captivating green eyes and said quietly, "If she wants to live, she'll do what we say."
