A boy makes a life changing decision on the night of the senior prom.
It was the night of senior prom in 2008, and he was as nervous as could be.  As a matter of fact, he was pretty sure that he had never been that nervous before.  No, not nervous, nervous didn’t quite describe it right.  Anxious.  Yes, that was the word.  Angst was building up inside of him, and he couldn’t stop thinking about what he was about to do.  It had been on his mind since last year, when he had heard stories of someone else doing it.  The thought had implanted itself in his mind, and he had not forgotten about that night.  And now his moment had come.  There she stood, in all her beauty, the dim lights glistening off of her brown eyes and sleek brunette hair, giving her the most endearing complexion against the dark room.
He mustered up his last bit of courage, and stepped up onto the stage.  He took the microphone and, in a hushed voice, said “Umm, excuse me, can I have everyone’s attention please?”  The crowd quieted down and the music faded, so he continued.  “Well, I would like to ask my girlfriend to come up here with me, please.”  Completely baffled, she complied and took her place on the stage beside him.  “Well, ok, let me say this.  Alyssa, when we first met, well, when I first saw you, I knew that there was something special about you, and I couldn’t keep my mind off of you.  We’ve been together for four years now, and I cant say my feelings for you haven’t changed.  They’ve grown stronger.  The more I’m with you, the more I know that I love you.  And now, after four years of dating, I’ve only got one thing to ask you.  Alyssa, will you marry me?”
Even the people who had continued talking had now stopped, and all eyes were on them.  It seemed like an eternity, like a horrible dream and a beautiful nightmare simultaneously, and he was waiting for that dreaded ‘No.’  But it never came.  She opened her lips slowly, and everyone strained their ears to hear what she said.  And then came the word, the single most important word that anyone can ever hear in their entire lives.  “Yes.”  Everyone broke out in cheers and applause, and John stood up quickly to meet the embrace of his new fiancé.  They didn’t care what their parents thought, nor what their friends thought.  That night was all about them, and it could never last long enough.  There they stood, embracing each other, ready to spend the rest of their lives together, and no one could ever pull them apart.
