Prologue of a longer work - not sure what it will turn into yet!
Lindsay reached under her bed for the box and opened it. She pulled an envelope out of the box and stared at it, just like she had a million times before. Mon étoile, it said: my star. After a few minutes, she pulled a letter from the envelope and opened it. She had received it only last year, but the paper already looked old because she had read it so many times. There were spots scattered all over it – places where her tears had refused to stay in her eyes. The ink was beginning to smear as well, for the same reason.

As soon as she began to read, her eyes began to fill with tears, to the point that she almost couldn’t see. But she refused to give in. She wiped the tears from her eyes and ploughed on.

                My Beautiful Lindsay,
It breaks my heart to go away, but you know I don’t have a choice. Please
know that I think you are amazing. You are one of the most loyal,
compassionate, and hard-working people I know and I love you with all my
heart. This is not the end. I will come back to you as soon as I can. You are
and will remain to be the only star in my sky.

              With love,
              Anthony
