Fear and Ignorance are an important part of this poem. |
-Please read aloud- *The Soldier and the Priest* The soldier and the priest take a look at each other. "You can be saved" says the priest, to the soldier. "You're just another victim of a world run by greed and Men who tell lies with truth, make you bleed. For they have no fear of heaven or hell, all they care For is the products they sell, the women they keep For there own twisted pleasure and money they earn To spend at their leisure. You should come with me Inside the church, we'll spend some time, remove your hurt. I know your fears and I know your sorrow, I will be your shepherd And you will find tomorrow Brings another day of love, of joy, of rain And you will smile content in the strength of your faith." The soldier smiled and waited awhile, starring at the Priest Like a crocodile. Waiting for his prey to make the mistake Of falling into a trap it cannot escape. He opened his mouth To talk again but the fist of the soldier acted instead. The Priest fell to the ground, Bleeding and sounding the pain of the world In the incessant pounding of his nerves through his lips, As his aching hips Cried for assistance on the stone cold floor. The soldier began to talk in a whisper As if his words were precious and meant something deeper Then what appeared on the surface, As his violent reply sent a shiver up the spines of those nearby. "I'm not a sheep, or a follower of men I've killed when I like and ill do it again. Whenever I want to or find the need I will rip open the next man like a piece of meat, Heartlessly destroy the life that he lead and take his women for a prize on my bed. This Is the difference between you and me, I do as I like... And you are a servant to what might be...So tell me...What if your wrong? The priest looked up in a bloodied daze and replied through teeth shattered and pained "What if I’m right?" No more would he preach to unfriendly ears, for his death came as swiftly as the soldier he feared. |
