Moved to a big 'southern' city from a Massachusetts fishing island 12 years ago. |
(on Rockport, Massachusetts, 1996) Under Canopied Branches A starlit night Phantom foghorn sighs. A heart can see through blackness, A soul can lead the way Water is infinity You gaze at trails of stardust in the sky. One falls, A thread of gold woven into memory, deeply intertwined with all which is us We are, we are. Fear has never been a part of me here, I AM this place, believe! I lead you here my friend to touch the sky, the cliffs, the trees...... As you sit, consumed do you realize You are inside of me? ______________________________________ I can't draw a night song, I can't whisper secrets of rock. I can't swim for you in weightless water, I can't undo the locks. I can't paint the trees in everchanging greens, and golds, and browns I can't fill your lungs with heaven.... But open your fingers close your eyes, and don't resist the wind. Let go of city lights, abandon scattered fright And, I'll take you there, I'll show you the way. ___________________________________________ Saphire days on which no longer depend supreme promises carried silk strands to close around musty caves. These swelling seasons brought the universe within reach to mourn the sweat of seaweed. Unpretentious hearts torn free, an ancient stranger sails on the lungs of human passion. Stare! In awe at the crowns of this inhaling sea (she carried me) Irridescent curtains tickle the bloodstream, suck on the spine Suggesting... Life is tough on delicate things. (And yet) Only the small things push up through wood pilings and black and crackled asphalt. _________________________________ Steel Derek Summer Solstice and with her brings rites of blue skies, and rites of passage, and rites carried on the lullabye of ancient crows. And so what are mine wayward rites? Who am I in this journey? Oh Solitude, I touch you again to soothe these wrinkles from the tattered quilt of my mind. Searching wind songs for rumors whispered by trees, Guide me. I'll believe. Granite in my soul, and so what are mine Steel rites? Steel me, Steal me. Wrap me in your liquid cloak of freedom. I can't stay here forever, wondering if time will make us wiser and oh, how my world is on fire. Scorched, cowering, yet these flames light my way through the unknown wood. Shadows of a dream, surreal. Mother star to my world sinks below swaying trees. For now, I'll seek the shelter of your walls. Steel me, Steal me. Your rites my pathway on this journey to the stars. _________________________________________ "I feel lonley tonight thinking of going, and so I sought the comfort of the stars. The Big Dipper reflected star for star on the water of Little Parker, the chorus of bullfrogs, the fuzz of the Milky Way, crickets and buzzing tree insects, long grass tickling my knee caps. The air is so sweet here. The sky so dark. My brain is far away. I wonder if I'll be able to see the stars there. I fall asleep to the tranquil call of fog horns and moonshine...." 7/1997 http://www.Writing.Com/authors/dcsagec |
