The steps of maturity, as you get older.
BIRTH:

The world is new,
Sounds are loud to the ears.

Different people,
Misunderstanding child-like fears.

A time when you feel everything,
But know nothing.

TODDLER:

Clumsily shuffling across the floor,
The first step a big step.

The first word to adult ears,
A blessing, a gift.

A time when these goals are met,
And you begin to mould.

CHILD:

Feeling inconquerable,
Each thought, a new invention.

Sitting in colourful school classrooms,
Making friends, a new tension.

A time when you're seen,
Not just heard.

TEENAGER:

When you're right,
And hormones are your main leader.

You're always right,
Try to fly, without a safety net.

A time when parent's must let go,
But know we can't live without them.

PARENT:

Feeling pride,
Your lessons, their freedom.

Knowing we must one day let go,
But knowing that maternity holds them.

A time where they don't realise,
But you were once like them.

ELDER:

Our job is done,
A life lain before you.

A tale of your own,
As much as the stars, they are true.

A time where you can sit back,
And know you're job is done.

Your life has been a story,
That soon people will learn by,
And make their own mistakes,
Where your tale is finished,
And the wisdom behind your eyes,
Forever seen.
