I found a Sword Brother in the desert while on crusade! |
Sword Brothers I have held ready, and thus far alone, standing sad and quiet, so far from home, my skills and my armor both were rusting, covered in sand, wind heavily dusting, How shall I keep my edge and my blade? Where shall I train, in this place with no shade? The answers came when I, looking no further, walked in the bazaar, and saw my new sword brother! The look of the desert was burned into his hide, His eye was keen, and his smile was wide As he saw, as I did, that a brother had come To draw sword with together, as battle was done, We tested our mettle, with a slight bit of fun, As we viewed the bright blades by the shop, in the sun, Our knowledge was equal, our skills were the same, And arms we did find, and the chance then came. The sun set on the field, open, flat and austere As we saluted each other, and the crowd drew near, And that very first ring and first clash of steel, Was a clarion call, like a bell’s ringing peal, The slashes and the blows, the thrust and the parry, Drew more watchers around as they heard the sound carry, We circled, we lunged, and we laughed loud and rejoiced As our blades sang the tune, we had made the right choice. Like fighting ourselves, we declared to each other, As we paused each to look upon the sword brother, Then reaching out once, the blades touched together In salute, and the dance became faster, and better! Ringing out harmony, steel and style, The joust kept on running for oh, such a while Until, heaving and gasping for breath and for drink, We ceased in our fight with a grin and a wink Full secure in the thought that, here in the twilight, The sword brothers would win any honorable fight, Side by side, striding with bold heart into the fray, The Sword Brothers ever, would carry the day! © 01 JUN 2005 by JSR |
