How do we see ourselves as gay Americans? What happens when noone will listen?
I wonder sometimes with the world the way it is, why can't we all get along? I am terrified that we live in a world where one voice cannot change the future, anymore. With the invention of the internet there are so many people voicing their opinions and not much action going on in the streets like it used to be. The reason I bring this up is beacause I believe that we as gay Americans are the last discriminatory group in this great nation.
We are constantly being supressed by those right wing individuals who's only care is to protect the sanctity of their own brotherhood. Yet noone does anything about them and their views, we all sit back in our recliners and our easy chairs and relax and watch the news unfold on t.v. We see the ACLU trying with their might to stick up for the rights of minorities, only problem is most of the courts that they try to decry, see them as an obstacle to a greater cause, not a threat. Their voices are raised too loud and as a result nothing the ACLU accomplishes poses much success.
Gay Pride seems to be a joke in itself, the people who put on these parades of embarrassment should realize they are feeding the straight worlds view and promoting homophobia. Don't get me wrong Gay Pride was great in the seventies but does it really have a place in todays world when we are constantly searching for the right to marry? Whos to say what is right, and what is wrong...I am a gay man and I believe in God! When you are told that God himself hates the gay lifestyle and he will turn his back on all those who fornicate with other men, you wonder why on earth you would be gay in the first place.
I came from a small Utah town filled with mormons, worse yet I was a mormon. That is until the church found out about my gay style of life and booted me out. While reading the most published book in the world one day I decided to conduct my own query into the fact of homosexuality. While it does say that god condemns it, it also says that if you are rude and hateful to your mother and father, that you should be judged and killed. Guess there will be a lot of people who ultimately fall into that category since I don't know of very many people who have not fought with their loving parents at one time or another. Fact is if that were a true statement I would have been dead a long time ago, it is no secret that my mother and I have gone the rounds and she reminds me of it every chance she gets.
In todays world there should be millions of us getting together and demanding that we have the same inalienable rights that our straight counterparts do. The right to marry, the right to practice our religious beliefs and the right to be a part of a humane society. So why has not this happened, my theory goes something like this:

"We are so internet driven and so wrapped up in the our own lives that we do not have the time, the energy, or the effort to put forth such an endeavor. Where would we start anyway? Who would listen? Who would march with us if we needed to? Truth is noone wants to be involved in something that may come back to haunt them. Imagine for a moment that while you are reading this article, someone right now, someone maybe even in your own hometown is reading this same article. Now imagine how it would be and what it would accomplish if this were a chain event."
