This is about my nephew who was adopted by my sister.
One of two has been her challenge in life;
He was the first and he cuts like a knife.

She took him from hell when he was less then two;
She did everything and above a mother can do.

Hair of white with brown eyes that were so deep,
He was her blessing she promised to keep.

He can't feel the love if its shown or spoken,
He is a boy that is loved but broken.

His anger grew as quick as he did tall;
Hushed silence with bruises from her fall.

Her son of eighteen is now lost in a dark world of the unclaimed.
Reading the headlines, praying he isn't the one maimed.

Lacking a high, he needs to beg borrow and steal.
He knocks on her door with a promising smile and a false deal.

He promises he has changed and comes back with false intent,
She gives in, thinking this will be different.

He charms his way in for a few hours or more,
They all go to sleep, and he is out the door.

A loud noise of glass awakes the family of three,
Money is gone, where did he flee?

Possessions are missing, things are broken and torn,
She cries over the son she will soon have to morn.

She continued on a search for his safe return,
Rehab, intervention, or God, anything that will help him learn.

She woke one morning with a message in her heart,
She has been all wrong right from the start.

She had a rush of emotion and mentally let go of her son.
"Not my will, but your WILL almighty! to be done."

Her son is no longer a troubled child, but a lost man.
He has to choose his own path regardless of her earlier plan.

She will always be his mother, every day and night.
She prays for his guidance and vision to see the light.

"Lord love him and guide him as he wanders astray,
I pray he'll be found and will find you today."
