This is a short patriotic poem.
Lady Liberty

Photographs don't do her justice, this
old crone of the sea.
Oft times we take her for granted, just
knowing that there is where she'll be.
Faithful, steadfast, she holds high her light,
for all to witness throughout endless nights.
For years, allaying the fears and the tears of
thousands of souls who are drawn
to her waiting arms.
Her charms speak of freedom, acceptance, and justice
as each pilgrim disembarks
upon her mighty shore.
Sustaining the promise of new livelihoods, she receives their
dreams; holds them, cherished, at her breast.
She calls to the world, "Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."*
There is a sadness in her eye.
Serves to remind us of sacrifices;
prices paid for freedoms we enjoy.
Stand tall to greet her.
Feel your heart flutter as with
each weary step, you set foot upon her soil.
Praise the Lord that her noble sons fight
so persistently to continue her guardianship.
Pray for peace upon this nation.
Bestow peace upon this land.
Bring peace upon the Lady.
She is ever vigilant, ever grand.

*This quote is located at the base of the Statue of Liberty. It is from a sonnet written by Emma Lazarus (1849-1887).
