Lupine Dreams

In dreams it seems
I’ve often run
With wolves;

Capering to
a quiet stream
complete with
reflecting pool.

Each lupine wanderer
pausing in turn,
to stare at
rippling reflection
before
slaking thirst.

But when I stare
no image returns.

Water draws back..

Thirst continues
unabated until I wake:

and continues still.
