”The Beautiful Voice” by WakeUpAndLive No Cig for me! is a cute, realistic story about a woman who very suddenly falls in love with a man. On its face, it would seem like just yet another clichéd romance and a rather boring one at that. The brilliance of this short story, however, becomes quite clear at the very end, and because of the brevity, this opens up for a second or even multiple reads. At least, once the reader is reflecting upon the story in hindsight, they can run through the whole dialogue in their head again and thereby relive the unusual meeting between two persons whom society not often guesses to end up together that this evidently is.
Since this short story is so brief, it would be advisable to anyone who may read this review to read the inherent story as well, which is why no further details will be given in relation to the characters. Though, it needs to be emphasized that one is in for an interesting surprise, or even plot twist, if interpreted this way, on the last three sentences.
Grammatically and stylistically, the presented form of the short story is quite well-written, although there are a few errors in punctuation and some paragraphs, which could benefit of a rewriting, such as one of the last ones, which includes a rather confusing curly bracket. This may be intentional, but to the author of this review, it feels very misplaced, even to the point of acting as a disturbance to the reading flow and the overall story.
Aside from these few remarks, the reading experience was more pleasant than the opposite and in the bigger picture, the short story surely has the ability to stand tall as a creative work of literature.
