The opening to this story is absolutely fascinating. 8 boats magically appearing. Who would have thought of that? - the suspense and intrigue. In paragraph 3, however, I find that the author makes it too obvious and explains too much.
"I remember falling in the water, then I woke up on this beach. When was that? It seems like years; many, many years." This line takes us back to personal interest in the narrator's story.
The paragraph on how the narrator is embraced in light, finding rescue and resolution is a good wrap-up to the story.
I would love to see the mystery continue longer before the resolution occurs.
