I love to see someone else who appreciates Tolkien's poetry (sadly the most neglected part of his work).
You have captured the flavor of the epic poems Tolkien write quite effectively. The vocabulary is appropriate and even powerful.
I can hear this as either the work of elves acknowledging the eagles, or even better (and I hope it was your intent), the words of the eagles themselves.
The fact that the rhyming scheme is very loose is perfect if this is the eagles themselves talking!
The only thing I would suggest is taking a look at some of Tolkien's epics again. No matter who is speaking, the lines scan, they have a rhythm, a flow. They aren't what might be called "free verse".
This is a little too much free verse and not enough rhythm. Does that make sense?
But hey, that's just me. This works just fine without and DOES have a flow, just not the flow I would have done. :)
Good job and my congratulations!
