Enjoyed reading your choices. I like to include the "bad girls" too: Rahab, a Canaanite prostitute who helped the Israelites conquer Jericho, and Bathsheba, the woman whose husband King David had killed so he could have her for himself.
The thing I like most about these two women? They are in the lineage of Jesus!
" but instead of criticizing, they helped me" And thank God for those encouragers! I depend on avid readers to evaluate my work because they know good writing from bad. Other writers often just tell you how they would have written it.
Reading or watching programs by writers I admired was a great help too.
I so agree. Usually when I see a movie version of a book I liked, I leave the theater saying, "The Book Was Better."
I remember leaving the theater after seeing "Gone Girl". People were saying they couldn't believe how the movie ended. Many of us said, "You should have read the book!" It was a decent adaptation, but the shock value of the book ending was hard to reproduce.
You had me at "I was in Penn Station . . . " Love the way you used the page layout to pace your story. Sometimes the briefest of encounters make the strongest impact.
Powerful. The situation in which most of us writers find ourselves.
"Oh to fuel my creativity from the ashes of frustration." Best line not even in the piece.
Don't know where you are in the writing process. I started as a poet at 16. At 71 I'm working on my ninth book - fifth novel. The money I've made is miniscule, but the rewards are innumerable.
Powerful. Fiction, I hope. But I know too well this is reality for too many women. Only hope those who need to see a way out get the chance to read this work.
I felt this way for years. Becoming a newspaper reporter helped me get over my fear of writing something, putting my name on it, and publishing it.
Eventually that confidence made its way to my novel writing. I'm glad I got over it in time to hear my Mom introduce me to her friends as "My daughter, the writer". I almost waited too long. Don't.
I'm strolling through your portfolio and enjoying myself.
Don't want to be too self-promoting, but from what I see of your interests I wonder if you'd enjoy one of my novels? Unintended Consequences - Wallis & Edward
I am fascinated with British Monarchy across the centuries. I'm amazed at by the simply consequence of birth you can be flung into such a complicated dynasty.
If you are interested, I'd be happy to send you a copy. I'm not about making money off my friends.
