I'm guessing something bad happened. I wonder if Amber saw something, or did something herself--it's a little confusing on what's going on, and the second person isn't mentioned at all. What does Amber look like? Who is the other person? If they're in the woods describe them. Remember that the reader doesn't know anything other than what you tell them.
Also: they're=they are
"For it was dark and they had to go their separate ways."
