I love this piece. I've felt like that before, losing myself in doubt and straying off the path to righteousness. I love the line "My King for a moment lost his golden crown" that is very deep and inspiring, seeing as how we often strip him of his crown and lose our loyalty. I thought the strongest line was "I picked up doubt like a loaded gun". I might be stretching but I love this line because doubt can destroy your spiritual life like a loaded gun can destroy your physical life. By using it in the way you did, the image I gathered is committing spiritual suicide by doubting God's plan. Sorry to write so much but this is a very beautiful piece.
That was beautiful. To tell you the truth, I thought it was you who had the cancer but the ended was perfect. I loved the way you used the first stanza to make it seems as though you would be the one who is sick. Those first three lines "Icy fingers are clutching me / gripping me tight / But I can't feel them touching me" shows how you use the imagery of death to, not only throw off the reader, but also to let the reader know you aren't the one who is dying. I'm glad I read that part over. That is a great poem
This poem is a very sweet dedication. I love the imagery in the first stanza of him being a familiar silhouette. It speaks volumes just out of that one stanza. I also like how you end every stanza with always. very nice use of repetition. All in all I feel it is a lovely piece.
