I read the Wax Doll. Nice story. I didn't go back to the original because my French isn't good. That said... a couple footnotes or endnotes or something may be helpful as people today aren't very familiar with wax or porcelain dolls or for that matter... anything handmade and fixable. A burial? Yes, I can see that. It translates culturally and across the centuries.

I think/speak American and Central-American. My French was learned in grade school (good pronunciation, not so good comprehension). My Brazilian/Portugues and Western Norwegian are rough at best. I'm learning Thai/Lao as I hope to visit Isan in NE Thailand.
That's a good suggestion about footnotes or endnotes. I know I had to do some research while translating these chapters to make sure I understood. One part that springs to mind is when I was translating the 3rd chapter, I ended up watching videos (in both English and French) about how limewash was made and used. It turns out part of the process to make limewash involves heating lime up to almost 1600°F. Definitely need to be careful around that!

At some point, I'll look into going through and adding notes explaining what might not be common knowledge today.
To whoever anonymously upgraded my account, thank you very much for the gift! I appreciate it.
