Summary of this DVD... | ||
Deals with the human race trying to conquer a new planet. The planet's indiginous species, most of who are sentient, do not take kindly to this. The humans develop technology to allow them into bodies similiar to the indiginous species called 'avatars'. One man uses this to get deep into the society of the 'aliens'. But once he realizes all they have there, all they are, his loyalties come into question.
This type of DVD is good for...
Most people will enjoy this. Its got some action, romance, messages, imagery... don't watch it if you're looking for anything too deep or challenging, but its a well-crafted, fun movie.
I especially liked... | ||
The imagery was wonderful. I felt like I could take a screenshot at any given moment and sell it to an art mueseum. I also liked the messages about how we have treated our planet and the nature of humans to not only do whatever it takes to survive, but justify it to themselves as well. Its ability to sometimes kill off main/semi-main characters also made it a more intresting film, as it was less predictable. The characters were consistent and there was some good tension in the film.
I didn't like... | ||
At times it could seem a bit cliched- there were some bits that could be seen coming a while off. I didn't like how they started to eliminate some of the shades of grey near the end, either- I've always thought shades of grey are what make a story intresting and believable. Making the indigenous species some sort of purely honourable, purely good beings was a mistake in my opinion.
This DVD made me feel...
Intrigued, thoughtful and a bit of awe at the truly amazing scenery.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
The acting was generally high quality, although a few roles were played too strongly into a stereotype for my liking.
I recommend this DVD because...
Its fun, thought-provoking and is made with attention to detail and stunning visuals.
I don't recommend this DVD because...
Its a bit mainstream, cliched and the dialouge can fall flat at times.
Further Comments... | ||
This is one of those movies that is much better in cinema than on DVD. Its made for the big screen, with mates sitting around you, popcorn and coke it hand- not for tiny screens and flimsy 3-D glasses.
