Human nature. The Celestine Prophecy is a treat for anyone struggling with the questions; Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here?



The story is essentially about a man who is unwittingly taken on an adventure in the jungles of Peru, hoping to preserve an ancient manuscript that contains nine key insights into human nature, human interaction, and life itself.



While supposedly based upon true events, the story paints a clear and precise image of human nature, and the course that it has, and most likely will take. While it isn't a self help book, its popularity has stemmed from the fact that the insights revealed in its pages seem to ring out with truth, and an understanding that you knew you always had, you just never really thought about it. The book makes you stop and think about your life, and that alone makes for an interesting experience.



Filled with suspense, danger, and most importantly enlightenment, The Celestine Prophecy is a must read for anyone wishing to push the limits of understanding in the world around them.

The nine insights that are discovered throughout the book. As the main character learns of these insights, you learn of them along with him. As the insights affect him, and make him turn in upon himself and begin to apply those insights in to his interactions with the world around him, you find yourself applying those same ideals. These insights don't tell you how you should live your life (as do most religious texts). It gives you a blueprint on how to look inside yourself, look at your life, and your interactions with others, and make yourself a better person with that understanding. It does all this in an adventure setting, and you find yourself caught up with the tale, and the impact it has.

The idea that its a true story. While it's a great story, and the message is profoundly enlightening, I find it hard to believe. The twists and turns that the story takes, while entertaining, seem too fictitious and too plot orientated to be true.



The characters don't seem well developed, and the story is told through the eyes of the main character, and even he didn't seem well developed. at least, Not nearly developed enough to feel like a true story. I could be wrong, and it could be true, but because it didn’t feel like a true story I was slightly turned off from this book, and sometimes ended up second-guessing these enlightening ideas that the book was trying to convey, just because the circumstances of the main character acquiring them seemed contrived.



But remember these are my personal opinions, and these few things hardly detracted from my enjoyment of the book. While enough to catch my attention you may find that you have a completely different opinion. I’m sure we’ll both agree, after you read it, the book is incredibly profound! :)

Think, alot.

I was given this book from a friend. That friend had received it from another friend, who had borrowed it from someone else. This book has a way of passing itself between intelligent people, looking to push the limits of their understanding of life, and human nature. I hope to pass it on to any of you, and trust you can find the same enjoyment in reading it as I, and many others, have had.
