personalized view of a rape victim
I can't believe how calmly you sat,
playing with my hair
talking to your family,
while I leaned, propped against a wall...
an ugly, dried out, stain on the wall.
And no one noticed.
Your hand patting mine;
always the kind-hearted,
as if it hadn't been you,
as if it hadn't been your lips,
pressed cold and hard on my neck
on me
And no one asked.
The sky fell and hit the vast and desolate Earth...
a mockingbird shot, just for the sake of the sport...
the light behind the eyes of trust burned out and all was dark.
And no one thought.
After eternity had passed
and you had left to pursue the simpler pleasures of television
and I lay empty yet bursting,
I prayed for sweet release
for freedom through death
And no one answered.
I walked into the next room
shape shifting all the while,
from a giant lumbering elephant
to a tiny flittering insect,
back and forth, trunk then proboscus,
both unpleasant and hideous...
And no one saw.
I stood before my two best friends
one who broke all the strings of trust,
who burned the bridge of friendship
the other who was not there for me,
who turned her back.
you looked at me,
saw the dying embers in my eyes
smiled uncertainly, then left quickly.
She looked at me and finally
someone listened.
I was calling for you
and you turned the radio up
ignoring my pleas...
but can you ignore these bruises,
these scratches?
I was calling for you
calling you by name
and no one listened.
You'd of thought I had asked for excuses,
for that's what I received...
that and a bottle of peroxide for my cuts.
That and blank stares for my time.
And no one understands.
I came a girl with smiles and glimpses of a future
I left a shadow of what was, what would've been, and what will never be again.
And I cannot go back.
