A short tale of love from two different worlds... |
The Mermaid and the Sailor She swam beneath the ocean always happy and carefree; she loved to play amongst her friends in the stormy briny sea. A palace made of treasures sunken and made of different pearls, was this little mermaids haven-the envy of all fish-girls. But then one day a storm let loose, the worst that sank all ships, and many a good sailor sank into his watery crypt. The mermaid saw one sailor fighting to stay afloat, she swam to him to save his life from his raging boat. She brought him to her palace and put him quick to bed, and breathed sweet life into his soul after he was dead. Awakened was the sailor from an eternal deadly world, to see the little mermaid a beautiful half-fish girl! She fell in love with this man and he fell deeply too, but they were from two different worlds whatever would they do? The sailor and the mermaid never spent their times apart, because they were as one from the deepest of their hearts. But sadder and sadder the sailor came to be, to live under the water...beneath the briny sea. One day a ship passed by and the sailor saw its sail, he said, "Good-bye, I must leave, I love you sweet, farewell. I will come back to see you, can't you come with me? I can't live in your palace beneath the briny sea." The mermaid cried and shook her head because she couldn't go, she knew that it would kill her even though he did not know. He kissed her on the lips and swam up to the ship, and now the mermaid was thus doomed in her own dark crypt. She missed the man she loved and grew weaker by the day, "Come back to me I love you!" she was always heard to say. It finally came to be that she was about to die, she drifted to the surface and all her friends did cry. Then a net fell down upon her, pulling her aboard; the sailors gathered around but parted for their lord. The lord, who was her sailor, became wealthy quite indeed, but he knew he couldn't bring her back for she couldn't leave the sea. His love for her was so great it almost burst his heart, so he said farewell to his crew and knew he had to part. The mermaid looked up and beheld her sailor true, and whispered for the lord, "I always have loved you." So he held her in his arms and jumped into the sea, he would never leave his maiden...that's they way that it would be. He kissed her gently on the lips and she opened up her eyes, to see her love stay with her...he wouldn't let her die. Forever they have lived and forever it will be, the two will love each other beneath the briny sea. And if you listen closely to the wind that blows afar, you can hear the lovers and their laughter beneath the sea and stars! |
