Olympic Decathlon Entry No. 2

The New Prompt is:
Write a poem or story about a regret you have in your life.

Regarding Regrets

I have way too many regrets intertwined in the living of my life to be expected to pick just one.

I regret the death of my mother when I was only five years old. I regret the death of my father when my daughter was only three months old. I regret that my brothers and I were raised apart in an orphanage in Memphis, Tennessee. I regret that neither my mother’s sister, or my maternal grandparents, Sally and Charlie Casey, did not chose to take my two brothers and me to live with them when my mother, their daughter, died. I certainly regret that my father chose to remarry a woman by the name of Dorothy Smith. I remember always thinking that she was related to the Wicked Witch of the West. I have lived to regret the choice I made concerning the first man that I had chosen to marry. And I don’t know if you will understand, but I have had more than one occasion to truly regret bearing and raising four children.

I have just about regretted every job that I chose to take. I still live with the regret of making some of the choices I did about which friends to make.

When I think about the losses, disappointments, and sorrows spread throughout my life there is not one that stands out amongst the crowded pack, but in spite of it all I am still here.

I have heard people express regret for a fault or act of their own. In my case my most current regret at this specific juncture in time is not getting my last poem that I slaved over for the last prompt entered within the allotted time constraints for yesterday’s Writer’s Cramp.

If you will allow me to be very bold, I request that you consider this day’s entry an attempt to amend my latest regret. Please just keep reading because this entry contains a link to the poem that never got entered, and consequently never got read.

So if I am only allowed one regret, the fact simply remains that I have way too many.
