Written for my granddaughter who is moving away.

I remember the first time I ever saw you,
A tiny babe wrapped in a bunting
Held in your mother's arms
She asked if I would like to hold
My granddaughter.
I held you, there was an instant bonding
You are of my blood; a precious child.
You may never know how much I love you,
But through the years, I have tried
To show you how much you mean to me.
Twelve years old now, and they tell me
That they are moving to California -
A long way away, but they think
That it will be a good move,
And that the family will have a better life.
I shall miss you, little girl.
I shall miss your smile and the way
You hugged me when ever I saw you.
I shall miss the times we had together
Planting flowers in the yard,
Taking pictures and laughing together.
You are a child of grace,
You have a destiny to fulfill
And I can only wish you and your family
The very best - and much happiness.
Stay true to your dreams
Cherish the memories
Know - that I love you.
