Ballad of a wounded spirit
You didn't know
What you didn't know
If I could appear as 60 year old me
To 19 year old you
The first thing I would do
Is tell you that you are beautiful
I would say
You have a ready smile
A tender heart
And an infectious laugh

The first thing I would give you
Is the "NO" they never let you have

I'd tell you
anytime you are disrespected, pressured,
touched without consent
Use your "NO" and use it LOUD until somebody witnesses

I'd make sure you understood Your body belongs to YOU

More than that, I would tell you about the powerful things your body can feel
I would tell you why that is
and I'd explain how Pandora can't easily be put back into that box irregardless how she got out

I would be someone you could come to and not have your distress hijacked and your burden multiplied and your pain magnified.

I would be the parent and I would allow you to be the child.

I would make sure you knew the guilt and shame were never yours to bear.

I would tell you God never saw you different than before, and that the stain was washed away before it ever even happened

I would show you that it was only a projection, a play of darkness that didn't banish light, but merely blocked your eyes

I would speak to our Heavenly Father and ask Him to give you a vision of the imputed righteousness of Messiah with which you are adorned

White raiment pure and holy
Chosen before the foundation of the world

And the bottle where He captured every single one of those tears

I would ask Him to come to you in your dreams once again so you could once again know you are precious to Him

He knows your love is sincere. He heard every prayer, felt every wound to your heart.
And He will make all things new.
