My head pounds, I knew better but I still let you in.
The stiff drink burns my tender throat
but still feels good and smooth going down.
The same way you singe my heart-strings
but are still able to light up my soul.

As the day unfolds, I'm drunk by your essence.
Your trance holds me hostage without the bars,
while your words play havoc with my emotions,
I dizzily fall into your intoxicating embrace.

And as the hazy morning sun fights to shine,
the rumpled sheets aren't the only sign
that you graced me with your presence.
The "Dear Jane" letter fills an empty glass.

My head pounds from the night before.
I knew better, yet, I still let you in.
You have left me feeling ashamed
for choosing you as my drink of choice.
