Keeper of the Light

We must all become
Keepers of the light
Of hope, love, and reason,

Especially
In these dark
And troubling days.

When we are all constantly assaulted
By cynicism, darkness, despair, evil,
Fear, hatred, and loathing.

By mostly human trolls,
But now joined by AI,
Bots, and robots.

Deranged, demented, demonic, dystopian
Cynical purveyors of hateful rhetoric,
Spinmeister smoothly spin their odious lies.

Constant deep fakes
Falsehoods, lies,
And misinformation.

Nattering nabobs of negativity
Scheming, screeching, screaming
Reality denying, nonstop nonsense.

It isn't easy to do
But something we must all try
To accomplish every single day.

Becoming the light
That shines through
The dark night.

Only then can we overcome
The divisions and become united
And build a better world,

Be the keeper of the light
Before the darkness
Swallows up all.

what a time to be born - the late 60s to 70s in California.. We had tear gas days at Berkeley High School! Still got gassed once to twice. Earthquake and fire drills, no active shooter drills, and even nuclear war drills.
