Charlie and Stan plan a heist during their lunch break at the shop.
Lunch Break

My coworker, Charlie, and I are on our lunch break. My wife packed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple, and a Diet Sprite. The bread is soggy, the apple bruised, and the Sprite? Lukewarm. The story of my life.

Charlie says, "Mr. Sterling owes us wages for two months. And we didn't get our Christmas bonuses."

I can't argue with what Charlie’s saying, but the plan he has laid out is illegal.

"Stan, I heard he has a gold brick in his safe and a velvet bag filled with diamonds."

"Who says, Charlie?"

"Evie in accounting."

Evie is as dumb as a slug, but Charlie is sweet on her, so I keep my lip zipped.

"So I figure we cut through the electrified perimeter fence tonight, after dark. and--"

"Hold up there, buddy. There's no we."

"Stan, he's gonna sell the shop! He's gonna ink the deal tomorrow."

"Who says?"

"Evie."

"Evie has an awful lot of inside skinny, Charlie."

"Well, she and Sterling are pretty close."

“Electrified?”

“Oh, I’ll turn that off first,” he assured me. “Piece a cake.”

Charlie is not the sharpest blade in the Schick...however…

A gold brick and a bag of diamonds.

Tempting.

“So are you in?” he asks.

I do know how to crack a safe. Don't ask.

I throw my uneaten lunch in the trash.

"I’m in! What time should I pick you up, Charlie?"

"I was thinking midnight."

"Don't forget the wire cutters."
