Thrown into a junkyard by a dystopian government, Titus learns the healing power of music
Chapter 2
"What do you think you're doing here Billy?" said a man standing behind the counter of a derelict drinking establishment. "I came to get this debt off my back". Said a nervous, older man, trembling with every breath he took. The old man, referred to as "Billy" held a guitar in his hands, signaling that he wished to pay off his debt by giving his guitar up. "Do you know how many playing cards fly outta my pocket to pay these smugglers to get all of this alcohol in this godforsaken junkyard?" The man behind the counter gestured to show the bottles of alcohol displayed behind him. "And then, in a lapse on judgment on my part, I ask you to help me carry the shipments. Then you had the impressive talent of dripping over nothing and now I'm out 50 bottles of whiskey. Now if my math is correct that means I'm out 50 cards. And now you think I want some dusty, ugly, bright orange guitar?" There was a pause in the words the bartender spoke, and the pause was met with a blank stare by Billy. "Ah, yes, I forgot why they threw you in this junkyard. You probably don't have the mental faculties to comprehend what I'm sayin." The patrons of the establishment anxiously darted their heads back and forth from Billy and the bartender. They watched as the quaking Billy walked forward with his head down and his arms raised to offer the guitar in his hands. "Please... please Mr. McTell" said Billy, with a variety of nervous cracks in his voice. "Mr. McTell?" said the bartender. "They threw you in here because you're brain just couldn't understand reading or writing." The bartender walked slowly around the counter and over to Billy. He leaned over, getting as close to Billy's face as possible. "But do you know why they threw me in here?" The people around them suddenly leapt from their seats and sped to the wall furthest away from the bartender. "I killed fifty women because I didn't like the smell of their perfume. So what makes me think I'll take your this worhtless piece of wood when I could just take your life?" After McTell spoke these words, he looked over at a kid dressed in black overalls, sweeping the floor. "Hey Jimmy!" said McTell, grabbing the guitar from Billy's hand. "Why don't you take this guitar and throw it out in that dumpster out back." Tears filled Billy's eyes as McTell spoke those words and threw the guitar to Jason. After catching the blemished guitar, Jason threw the guitar outside, void of care whether it landed in the dumpster or not. The impact of the guitar hitting the ground caused a dust and dirt cloud to form around it and the strings to vibrate an unpleasing, unintelligible, and out of tune chord to ring out, echoing through the area surrounding the saloon. After the chord died out, the only sounds left were the faint whistles of the wind and a single gunshot.
