In which I write a bunch of stuff in little bursts.

This is a collection of short shots that I've written, some here and there. They'll be dated when I know/can determine the date. Reviews, as always, are appreciated!

Head high, she swept out of the room. A second later, head even higher, she swept back in, snatched up the money and was gone again.

"My lady, why would you look at the ceiling so? Is there something up there?"

"I've heard that heat tends to rise, yes?"

"So I've heard it said." Dante said playfully, his amusement evident. He was sitting at the table, he's feet propped up and his tie undone. "But you can't see heat, Annaleise."

"Yes, of course not. Especially with someone like you in the room, full of hot air. It cools the surrounding area by comparison."

Dante barked out a laugh, surprised at the woman's wit.

"I've got to admit, that was good. You deserve that money. But I've got a proposal for you."

"Oh?"

"Oh indeed. I propose a partnership. I have money, you have skills, I think it'd work beautifully. Picture it...us two kids, the world at our feet!"

"Hmmm...." Annaleise muttered, "It is a nice thought. You've got yourself a potential deal. I'll find you and let you know."

"That's all I ask."

He watched her leave, reaching into his pocket for his wallet. It was gone. For the second time in no more than a quarter hour, Dante laughed.

"Mercy, she's good."

He kept absolutely still as the footsteps got louder, heart pounding in his chest.

What did they want? What could they possibly want with a nobody like him?

The thought brought no comfort to him as he peeked around the corner of the cubicle. He saw nothing. He heard nothing.

He ventured out tentatively, scanning everything within eyesight, straining his ears for anything that may sound unfamiliar. The coffee machine started up, and he jumped, but beyond that, there was nothing.

Had he imagined it?

He had just about convinced himself that it was imagination when they started up again. Loud, irregular footsteps, seeming to be right behind him.

But this was a crowded office, surely no one could do anything to him while he was here, right?

He walked briskly down the aisle, ducking right and left at random intervals, trying to shake his invisible pursuers, when he suddenly found himself at a dead end. He ducked into an empty meeting room, breathing heavily now, as he realized he was alone.

No one would hear him scream.
