The Second part of the Look-See: Legacies (A collection of interlocking short-stories)
The Look-See: Legacies #2
The blonde woman was terrified of walking the two blocks beneath the flickering lamp posts to see her mother. Whom by chance had been blessed by the Lord with a long and fruitful life-- had been on the final strand of string that the fates were to cut for a week. Unnerved, but determined to see her mother for one last time before her spark is blown out by The Reaper.
The blonde became very paranoid when the clatter of dress shoes clicked on the dry cement behind her. The woman kept the pace she was at trying not to show whatever was behind her that she knew about it. The fuel for the woman's anxiousness to get to the hospital was only quickened when the sound of footsteps stopped abruptly from behind her. She knew she couldn’t stop to look around behind her as the red flags flown on the banner in her head.
Curiosity like fear can override any emotion at any time, curiosity, on the other hand, is in the moment… while fear is eternal. Fear can last as long as you believe there is something to fear in, curiosity only ends when the quenching for answers is dried up. It is in our human nature to be curious about things we are afraid of or the unknown. The woman ignored all of the signs that told her to not look behind her and to keep walking.
She abruptly swiveled around to find nothing… nothing at all behind her. Was the sound of dress shoes clapping on the pavement fake she thought? Just as she turned to round back to her goal, the light at the end of the street flickered. When the light blinked on a man in a worn grey suit with red fingerless gloves stood under the lamp; however, she could not tell what his face looked like from her position.
The woman’s heart was crashing in her chest as the man popped from existence when the light flickered again. The woman turned with the light of the hospital in the distance in which she began walking. The woman’s phone rumbled in her jacket pocket as she slowly walked towards the hospital.
“How'd-.” the blonde began before a shrill scream like a cat being branded came from the other end of the line. The woman tried to speak but it came out as a mix of pure anguish as she walked into the hospital. A man was exiting the hospital looking at her when she walked into the hospital's reception area. The sound of the woman on the other line was cut off as the sound of flesh being torn from the bone filled her cell.          The tearing sounded as if the arms and legs were tied to the back legs of two horses and were sent running. They stretched and stretched until they broke from the tension from the arms and legs tied to the horse. When the sockets finally reached the limit, it sounded as a whip cracked right next to the phone.
The woman hung up the phone as the sound of something heavy being dropped to the floor was heard from the other line. The woman rushed to the desk with rings around her eyes from the loss of sleep from the past days. She waited for two hours so that she could visit her mother, she passed time by reading the magazines in the waiting room. She was halfway through Sports Illustrated when the doctor called her in.
...

“I will knock three times… that means that you will be able to come inside of the room.” the young nurse said in a sharp tone emphasizing the words, “Do you understand?”
“Three knocks I understand.” was what she bluntly said as her piercing steel eyes compliantly stared into the man’s eyes.
The doctor slipped into the room of her grandmother leaving her to stand out there with a piece of paper at her feet. The woman bent over swiping the piece of paper off of the white ceramic floor of the hospital. The woman read what was written on the piece of paper thinking to herself that it must be a sick joke. The paper read: If you yourself can not release, then it will come to take a piece.
A gurney passed by her with a team of nurses rushing a man in a police uniform to the emergency room. There was blood on the gurney and on the man’s hand who was screaming something that sounded like a rant to show his wounds… a right arm that was twisted in an unnatural way. The man was missing his left leg, there was also a large gash on his forehead that was gouged not slashed. The woman thought that the man had screamed in agony of something about a Look-See, whatever the hell that was.
Knock… Knock… Knock… echoed from the door of the room. The doctor opened the door peeking his head out, letting her know that she can come into the room. Reluctantly she entered the room with the door slammed behind her. Her nerves had burst as the door was slammed behind her, she jolted around to find the doctor with his mouth agape and no tongue and a hole in his throat. Bile rose in her throat as she tore her gaze from the man who had just told her to wait outside.
When she saw the doctor... she saw what she had feared to have seen. Her mother was laid on her bed with the pieces of her hair torn and skin ripped down the length to her torso. She stepped towards the corpse of her mother, that was when she looked into the silver mirror next to her bed.
Standing in front of the entrance to the room was the suited figure with the red fingerless gloves. Now that it was closer to her she saw something that chilled her to the marrow of her bone, the creature… the creature’s face. The face if you can even call it a face… had serrated shark-like teeth, several gashes on where his forehead should be that wrapped around the back of his cranium. Where there should have been the sockets for the eyes, there was only skin filling where they should be. The monsters hands, well not hands… fingers, claws, talons were dropped by its side. It seemed as if hell had spit another creature from the darkest depths of the burning inferno. If Satan had the features of a post-mortem Leatherface and the teeth of a Cheshire cat, I would be scared as hell of going to the netherworld.
The woman turned around to see the hell-spawn face to face, but when she did… it was gone. She swerved her head to the right to see if the creature was there nope and to the left… nope. It was gone she thought as a paper was dropped from the ceiling right in front of her. Written on the paper was:
If you yourself can not release, then it will come to take a piece.
Just then the taloned hand wrapped around the back of her head as she choked up a cry from the realization of what the creature was. The talons pulled her back screaming in agony as the doors to the room were slammed open.
The two doctors were horrified at the sight of the body of the dead patient and the doctor. The younger of the two saw the note on the floor. When he finished reciting the statement which was written upon the piece of paper. A drip of thick red liquid dropped onto the piece of paper that he was shaking in his hand. With terrified eyes full of primal fear he dragged his eyes up to the ceiling with the effort to see what he had feared to see, as another drop of blood fell onto his shoulder. The man by the door turned to look at the glass of the window to see doctors bustling about, he was greatly relieved to know that they were not alone in the hospital.
When he turned his attention back to the room a figure was standing right behind of the man who was feared to look up at the ceiling but not behind him. He watched in pure agony as the creature set his red fingerless gloved talon upon the man’s shoulder. That was when the man slowly looked behind him by the door.
“Caleb?” the doctor on the floor trembles, his head dripping beads of sweat onto the white clothes he had to wear at the hospital.
“Yes, Sam?” Caleb asks with a calm tone as if he injected morphine into his bloodstream as he seemed to calm for the situation at hand.
“Caleb whatever you do… do not look behind you.” Sam whispers across the room with hollow eyes looking behind Caleb at the creature. That had begun to bring his arm into the back of Sam as he pierces the air with a horrid echo from his throat. The bodies of the men were found in the room with holes in their hearts and missing several other vital organs, the other three that were inside of the room before the two… were gone.
