This poem is about the moment my innocence was shattered and how I've felt ever since. I was about 3 when this happened. Imagine being a 3 year old seeing how cruel society is. Everywhere I turned, I saw things that no one else did. I saw the way people cheated others out of their money. I saw how people excluded others because they were their own person. I even saw how people would dedicate their lives to things they despise just to be accepted by their peers. As I got older, It got harder to cope with. At 5 years old, I saw how people would spend hours trying to scramble out of pits of despair, but always slip and crash back into Depression's waiting arms. I saw how one mistake could act as a constant reminder that you could never be perfect. That you could never be accepted. At 9 years old, I saw how children are constantly disowned by the parents that they used to think were their biggest role models. I saw how people would walk past those living on the streets, not giving them a second glance. I saw how those who have nothing have more to give than those who have everything. Now, at 13, I see how important it is to show other people what I see. I see how everyday is a struggle to those who don't deserve the struggles they endure. I'm now the one who feels like they could never be perfect. Like I could never be accepted. I don't want the few people in the world who see these things to feel like they should carry this weight around with them their entire lives. Because truth is, they shouldn't.

-Impaired Innocence-
(By Ahlife Beconds)
Innocence
Is a shield
Meant to protect you from
Reality,
Yet
It cracks and fractures
Under every blow.
With each dent, comes
Pangs of unbearable pain.
Until eventually,
Our innocence
Shatters.
We crumple to the ground
With the
Weight of the
World’s vile deeds
Upon our shoulders.
We become Atlas;
Holding up the weight of the sky.
