Tonight was humid and warm.
I arose from my bed feeling covered with sweat
as a result from the summer's storm that had
disabled the electricity on our country street.
I went to the window to look at
approaching distant lightning.
Our dog, Skip, was hiding under the bed.
There were no animal sounds of the night
that I could hear that usually
assured me that all was well.
I tiptoed to the twin's bedroom
to see if my beloved children were having
trouble sleeping after such a downpour.
Jeremy and Jeannie were together
in their large crib.
I could tell that little Jeannie
was having a disturbing dream.
As I stood there, Jeremy, still in his sleep,
reached over and put his hand
on hers.
As if by magic, Jeannie ceased twisting
and moaning. A calmed smile appeared
on her beautiful face.
And my heart began to be filled with
love and joy at the beauty of a
twin's love for the other.
He would always be there for
his womb-mate. He would
be the comforter and brother
that no one else could be.
