A poem written many many moons ago. There's a longer version but this tells it i think.
Across the horizon ashes and debris.
The only remnants of what once was
When once we’re we.

Ruins remain that once stood tall,
But the path always pushes forward
Making giants fall.

Massive machines move mountains aside
Tearing down what walls we have built
Behind which we hide

A spark ignites and forests burn
But still we keep on forward
Life lesson learned.

Smoke still lingers from fires now doused.
Reminding me of happier days
Before smiles turned shouts.

Across the horizon ashes and debris
The only remnants of what once was
When once we were a we.
