Snowday

While snowflakes twirled in an arctic dance,
and turned colored fields icy white,
hearty laughs echoed in Winter chill,
as children played throughout the day.

On top of drift's is where they would prance,
at their fingertips frost would bite,
while the cold air continued to fill
with a flurry that could not stay.

Ornery children in warlike stance
balled-up snow for a snowball fight,
and their victims screamed out a loud shrill,
vowed their adversary would pay.

Their foes were caught as if in a trance,
the ammo flew by out of sight,
they all continued having their thrill,
hiding in the fort where they lay.

With widened eyes, a boy stared askance;
His friend was at a scary height
ready to slide down the huge snow hill
because he had built a makeshift sleigh.

The child looked back with one final glance,
The toboggan jumped and took flight,
Smashing beside the old wood mill,
The boy could find no words to say.

While snowflakes twirled in an arctic dance,
and turned colored fields icy white,
hearty laughs echoed in Winter chill,
as children played throughout the day.
