Who are we inside?
Freedom. We all want it, don't we? And that's what so much of life seems to be aware of right now. If only we possess the right car, the better house, or the smarter phone, we will have access to better things. We will see more, know more, bemore once we do this one more thing.

But purchased freedom is no such thing. It's a mindset that's based on the notion of possessions as a source for something else. Yes, we can own a faster car, but it doesn't offer real freedom; it only has increased speed to give. A smarter phone isn't smart at all, just full of additional programs. A plane ticket can allow us to travel to another destination, but when we get there, we're no different then we were upon departure.

Real freedom is interior; we cannot impose lasting change upon ourselves from outside. Possessions offer an illusion of control, but nothing lasting. Travel offers experiences we might not have had, but is meaningless by itself. People and relationships are essential to life, but they are catalysts for change, not the change itself.

We have to go inside to encounter real change. Successfully knowing ourselves is liberating when we have the courage to do it. Who knows us better than we know ourselves? Only one: Jesus.

Jesus knows us and He always has. We have existed as a thought in God's mind before we were conceived. Our looks, our families, our homes, and our characteristics exist because God created each of us to be exactly the way we are. His handiwork is writ large across our bodies, minds, and spirits. He wrote us into existence, an entire library of living in each person.
