Was it an oasis or a mirage ? |
She was travelling relentlessly through the desert days and nights. It was a small caravan and her fellow travelers discharged their duties of a fellow traveller for many days. But she was becoming a drag on the caravan. She has her own pains, the ones that she could not share with fellow travelers although she had started journey sharing a dream with them. Dreams and pains are both part of desert life or for that matter any life. There was no complaint of hers on that account but she felt that her pains are different and could not be shared with fellow travelers. Her continued pains were changing her dreams. The problem started here. A fortune teller once crossed the caravan and she consulted him about her problems. He advised to change the path for reaching an oasis. She was told the oasis has got a wise man who can solve her problems. She traveled alone taking risks in search of the oasis that held a wise man. After long and agonizing journey, she arrived at the oasis that held the wise man. He welcomed her and she was thrilled to meet him. He was not particularly handsome but had a charming face and she thought as if she knew him right from her childhood. They talked for few minutes daily and all her pains will go way. She was becoming younger with every day against the rule of nature. She has found the fountainhead of energy and she wanted to bath in it so that her thirst will vanish forever. Wise man advised here to only watch the fountainhead or at the most touch and feel the water for few moments. But she insisted on bathing, bathing with all her clothes removed and feeling the force of water all over her body. When she came out after the heavenly experience, she found no oasis around, no wise man. She could see water at a far off distance. Was it an oasis or a mirage ? Was she in her dreams ? But it was no dream, her organs were still experiencing the touch of the wise man. He was invisibly present in her body and with him she prepared for another day of the journey – to another oasis as she had lost her fellow travelers a long ago. |
