A play for young people (originally written for performance by adults with special needs.)

NARRATOR: Once upon a time there were three little pigs. They decided it was time to live independently.

PIG 1: It's been great living with my brother and sister.
PIG 2: I had fun living with you, too.
PIG 3: We definitely had good times.
PIG 1: I think it's time for me to have a place of my own, though.
PIG 2: Me too. I want a bachelor pad.
PIG 3: Sounds good to me. We can decorate our houses the way we like.

NARRATOR: So the three pigs went to find some materials to build their houses.

PIG 1: I think I'll build my house out of straw. There's plenty of it, it's easy to work with, it's cheap, and easy to clean. If I use straw bales, it will be well insulated. I want to keep my heating costs down!

NARRATOR: So the first pig built her house out of sustainable, renewable straw bales. She got an award for her green building practices. (She holds up plaque.) It kept her warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But there was one hazard she she hadn't prepared for.

WOLF: I smell a tender, juicy pig in there. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. But how can I get in? I know! First I'll invite myself in. If that doesn't work, I'll blow it down.
(Knocks on the door.) Little pig, little pig, let me come in!

PIG 1: Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!

WOLF: Then I'll HUFF - and I'll PUFF - and I'll BLOW your house in!

NARRATOR: So he huffed - and he puffed - and he blew down the house of the first little pig. Straw flew everywhere. But the little pig escaped.

PIG 1: That wolf was like a tornado!

NARRATOR: The second little pig went looking for materials to build his house.

PIG 2: My sister's house didn't hold up so well. I think I'll use more traditional materials. You can't go wrong with wood! I can recycle sticks. A stick is much heavier than straw, and stronger, too. And I can build a tiki bar for my bachelor pad!

NARRATOR: So the second pig built his house out of sticks and included a beautiful tiki bar. He got an award for Best Bachelor Pad from Big Boar magazine. (He holds up magazine.) It became a favorite entertainment spot for his friends. But one day he got a visitor he wasn't expecting.

WOLF : Nice digs for a pig! But I'm really interested in what's inside. I want that tasty pig in MY insides!
Little pig, little pig, let me come in!

PIG 2: Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!

WOLF: Then I'll HUFF - and I'll PUFF - and I'll BLOW your house in!

NARRATOR: So he huffed - and he puffed - and he blew down the house of the second little pig. He turned it into a pile of sticks. But the second pig escaped and ran for his life.

PIG 2: My beautiful bachelor pad - gone!

NARRATOR: Meanwhile, the third little pig was deciding on materials to build her house.

PIG 3: I want my house to be strong. I want it cool In the summer and warm in the winter. And I want it to be beautiful, and to last a long time. I think I'll use bricks. It will take a little longer and cost a little more, but it will last and last.

NARRATOR: She worked hard in the hot sun. Sometimes it seemed she would never get done. But finally it was built, and it turned out just like she wanted.

PIG 3: It's perfect. My own little house.

NARRATOR: But one day, the wolf showed up.

WOLF: This one might be a challenge. But I want to eat that delicious pig inside.
Little pig, little pig, let me come in!

PIG 3: Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!

WOLF: Then I'll HUFF - and I'll PUFF - and I'll BLOW your house in!

NARRATOR: So he huffed - and he puffed - but as hard as he tried, he couldn't blow down the house of the third little pig. He huffed and puffed again, but not even the curtains moved. He took another deep breath and filled up with so much air that he popped.
(The cast pops balloons, all at once.)

(The pigs walk in together, surveying the damage.)

PIG 1: Well, it looks like brick is the way to go.

PIG 2: I think your sister and I will build brick houses nearby.

PIG 3: Then we can live independently -

ALL PIGS: Together!
