A regrettable surgical procedure?
REGRET
Rue's eyes flickered open as a soothing voice reassured her, "You won't regret this." Groggily, she noted the white- coat clad people clustered at the foot of her bed. Their attention was centred on the man now leaning towards her with a shiny pair of surgical scissors. Rue remembered why she was here in this teaching hospital.
Her body began to tingle with anticipation. No, wait, she could actually wiggle her fingers and toes. Oh, how she had missed that sensation. This was what jubilation must feel like. As the surgeon cut at the dressing at her neck, Rue recalled meeting him only weeks ago.
People had always told her she had a good head on her shoulders and she had agreed. All her memories, all her knowledge resided in her cerebral computer. Her physical body on the other hand had failed her miserably. Her virile brain had been trapped and it sought a solution.
Eagerly, Rue glanced down to sneak a peek. Wait a minute, these shoulders seemed a trifle large. Was that chest hair? Frantically, she tried to tear at the white sheets. "Whoa there, eager beaver! You just had major surgery." Rue's brain recoiled in horror; hadn't she been specific? Now she was captive as a "he". ( 211 words)
