Thoughts on Valentines Day

Contrite Poetry

Must I write on every card?

I hardly know the
person

One word sums
them up: strange

Do I actually
know anyone well,

this endless
lonely masquerade?

Fine! I shall
write:

"Happy Birthday
wishing you well on your special day"

You'll say; "he
always writes that. Boring!"

"Best Wishes on
the auspicious occasion of your wedding"

You'll say;
"fancy way of saying it. Boring"

I'm sorry for
being an absolute horror

I am your living
nightmare.

Years of mundane
tedium

The daily grind

Pain of
childbirth,

The act of
conception,

That was me.

May Valentine's
Day this year be an act of selfless,

enjoinments in
helping others find love.

May we rejoice in
the eternality of life's worthier purpose.

Let me recount
missed heartbeats in denying myself your touch.

Powerful allure
of your being near for many years leaves me speechless.

What should I
think, what I could say that hasn't been said in words/

What can be said
that countless embraces have not said already?

To hold you
caress you, kiss you, intertwine impassioned, cry out those three
words.

If that doesn't
work I'll write

'Happy
Valentine's Day wishing you well on this day.'
