I wasn't entirely sure at first but now...Now when I think about it, it was meant to be. |
I saw them come down from the sky. Like a million bolts of lightning striking at the same time across miles and miles of the tundra floor, I saw them. Leria was standing beside me clutching her giant teddy bear in her small arms, green eyes wide and all seeing. Mika was farther away on his knees screaming, blinded by visions. "What'll happen now?" Leria asked me. I don't know, but how can I tell her that? she's trusted me all this time but I can't expect her to believe that everything is going to be okay when the sky is falling on top of our heads. They land with no sound, and I wonder how mankind is going to react to that, how many of them are standing outside their houses right now taking videos and pictures instead of finding shelter? Far too many that's what. Old gods coming back from the depths of the void to remake the earth and her people with nobody but us three to fight for her. I touch the hilt of my sword with one hand and squeeze Leria's hand comfortingly with the other. Mika gets to his feet and pulls out his bow and as he takes the first step forward I hear Leria gasp, "Oh, we fight them then?" I glance down at her and smile, "They're not giving us much of a choice." She lets go of my hand and sprints off toward Mika, telling him to wait for her, that she wanted to take a ride on his wings. I suppose this is it then. From the moment we left the mountain nothing has gone right and when we finally thought we'd ended it fate threw a tantrum. Well then, bring it on I say, it's been too long since I had a good fight. |
